This is an area where our practice truly shines. We take a lot of time upfront to determine exactly where you are having difficulties hearing and understanding. We then review the hearing solutions available to you and provide comprehensive counseling on what you can expect during the hearing aid fitting and each week after. The audiologists ensures that the hearing aids fit comfortable and appropriately in your ears during the hearing aid fitting appointment and also sets the hearing aid for the optimal acoustic performance. Successful use of hearing aids requires time for your brain to adjust to the new information it is receiving so we will see you back each week for about 3 weeks to make sure the aids are still set correctly and that you are achieving maximal results. Once that point is reached, we perform objective measurement in both quiet and noisy environments to ensure that you are hearing as well as you should. After that, you will return for a check-up every 6 months to ensure appropriate functioning of the hearing aids, perform deep cleanings, evaluate your ear canal, and answer any questions you may have.

We take the time to make sure you are hearing and understanding to the utmost of your ability.

The Hearing Aid Evaluation

Hearing aid evaluations are scheduled with an Audiologist, a trained specialist in the evaluation of hearing and the fitting of hearing aids. An Audiologist is different from a “hearing instrument specialist”, “hearing aid dispenser” or “audio-prosthologist” and has completed at least 7 years of extensive training. Our Audiologists are board certified by both the American Academy of Audiology and the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association and are also licensed by the state of Texas. Rest assured, you will be in good hands with the Audiologists of North Texas Hearing Consultants.

The cost of our comprehensive hearing aid evaluation is $120. During the hearing aid evaluation, the results of your hearing test will be discussed. FDA regulations require that a hearing test be performed within six months of the hearing aid evaluation. If it has been longer than six months since your last hearing test, it will be necessary for us to repeat the testing before proceeding with the hearing aid evaluation. Different hearing aid styles and circuits will be discussed as well as the benefit of each in different communication situations. The Audiologist will recommend which type of hearing solution is most appropriate for your hearing concerns and will explain realistic expectations for hearing aid use. Together you will reach a decision regarding which particular style and circuit is best for you. We encourage you to bring a family member or friend with you to this appointment.

The Hearing Aid Fitting

When a final decision is reached, a mold of your ear will be taken and sent to the hearing aid lab to create an aid specifically for you. You will be scheduled for an appointment to return in two weeks for the hearing aid fitting. The hearing aids will be personally set for you at this appointment. You will also be counseled on how to care for the aids as well as what to expect while using them over the next week.

Hearing Aid Follow-up Care

We want to make sure that your hearing aid is beneficial to you, so we provide a 30-day adaptation period. During the adaptation period, you will wear the hearing aids and evaluate their performance in your many different listening environments. You will return to the Audiologist to review your progress and any fine-tuning changes will be made to the hearing aid settings. These follow-up appointments are a crucial step in the fitting process and also help you to adapt to the hearing aids. If you feel you are not receiving the expected amount of benefit from the aids or if you are not pleased with them, they may be returned at the end of this 30-day period.

All of the hearing aids we fit are high level digital hearing aids. You will be able to find hearings aids for less money, but you will be sacrificing the quality of the instrument and also the quality of your care. Our hearing aid prices range from $1700 to $3400 each. The cost may be affected by the size of the aid but is primarily determined by the level of the circuit inside of it. Hearing aids using higher level digital technology are more expensive than lower level digital hearing aids.

Our hearing aids include a comprehensive 2 year manufacturer warranty that covers loss, damage and repair. Also included, are your first two years of office visits for cleaning and adjusting your hearing aids, which keeps them in good working order and maximizes your benefit.
